Peterson Control Union Email Phishing & Security Awareness Training

Peterson was aware of the threats of phishing attacks to the company and needed the best solution.

The Problem

From roots in agricultural inspections, Peterson and Control Union have been operating for nearly 100 years in the field of logistics, quality, certifications and risk management. Our in-depth knowledge and experience covers all aspects of the supply chain in many industries including agriculture, energy, forestry, sustainability and textiles.

With 4000 employees PCU were aware of some of the cyber thefts occurring at medium-size businesses.

ICT systems are a critical part of the services they provide to their customers. Securing the well known CIA triad of these ICT systems is key to us and our customers.

End user security awareness is a very important part of the defences in today's cyber security threat landscape.

On a management level, we knew the risks of a security incident, but we did not have a company-wide awareness program and we were not sure what tools were available on the market.

"We had basic security training in place as part of new employee on boarding and a yearly mandatory test. Employees could do a refresher course if needed, but we were limited to that. Some of our clients are now starting to require Security Awareness Training for their vendors as part of their audit process. These requirements do not specify the granularity needed, so we were still faced with a lack of clarity on what we needed and which method would be most effective and fulfil audit requirements." Ron, IT Manager

WHAT WE DID

When we found KnowBe4 through TheTechForce, it was a perfect fit. We knew we had to have something that allowed us to do phishing tests on the staff, record training and results and be able to report on the results. KnowBe4 was able to do all this in an easy to use fashion, having IT from having to do a lot of extra work. Getting started was an easy process. We did a couple of calls and were walked through the process of syncing accounts and setting up the way we wanted it, learning the reporting features and so forth.

Once we were set up, we decided to do a baseline Phishing Security Test to see how many of our staff were phish-prone. The first results showed there was much to be improved.

We now run automatic worldwide quarterly phishing campaigns. The KnowBe4 platform contains many country and language specific templates, making the campaigns much more effective. Users that fell for the phishing emails are automatically enrolled in security training.

Results

Since adopting KnowBe4 for our Email Phishing and Security Awareness Training we have reduced the risk of successful Phishing attacks substantially. Our staff are aware of the threats they need to know and we have now built a strong human firewall in our organisation.

The sheer amount of training content on the platform is a huge benefit for us as we are a large diverse organisation and we need diverse content. Engaging content is the key to successful training and KnowBe4 covers that very well. The ability to upload our training content is a big bonus.

The administration of the platform needs a special mention. Once you set up the platform through initial stages it pretty much runs on its own. It has saved us much time and hassle.
